Residents of Klang and Kuala Selangor need to be prepared for the high tide phenomenon

RESIDENTS of Klang, Kuala Selangor and nearby areas have been urged to remain vigilant following a warning of a high tide event beginning tomorrow.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the warning issued yesterday predicted that a high tide phenomenon would occur tomorrow at a height of more than 5m.

“We have already issued a high tide alert for tomorrow, and on September 14-15, with a height of more than 5m. On December 17-18 last year, the tide reached 4.7m at 4 .8m,” he told reporters after inspecting the upgrading works of a drainage system at Taman Melawis in Klang today.

Amirudin said the state government has identified several flood hotspots around Taman Melawis. Several short-term measures will be implemented by the state government, including the installation of additional pumps to speed up the flow of water.

Commenting on the meeting with all the agencies and parties involved to prepare for the floods on Monday, Amirudin said that the Selangor government will come up with several measures like sending equipment in advance to temporary evacuation centers in areas frequently flooded.

He said it was to avoid panic like during the December 2021 floods, when most relief center equipment was stored in a centralized area, making it difficult to deliver equipment as many roads were flooded.
